About Kittie

I will start with introducing myself! My name is Kittie Markus and I was born in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, which is located in a wooded areas in the middle of the country. This is also the place where I was trained as a creative therapist.

Together with my husband Bob Markus we are proud on our “gezellige” family, consisting of four daughters and their husbands and children [“gezellig” is one of the hardest words to translate, see Wikipedia].

In my twenties and thirties I worked as a creative therapist, gave workshops, wrote books and owned a gallery-like shop. The latter has grown into an internationally known home decoration wholesale called “Meander”. Two of my daughters are now in charge, which gives me enough time for other creative projects.

Wool has fascinated me since the start of my education and I have loved all these years.

So for the last two years I have great pleasure in spending my time on publishing children’s books. Our publishing company “De vier windstreken” [the four points of the wind] even publishes books for adults now. The remaning time is spend on painting, sculpting, spinning and processing wool.

I really enjoy sharing my creative knowledge and experience. Getting people exciting and inspired by creating thing together is what I love most of all. The techniques I learned during my education have given me a solid base for this and make it possible for me to live a happy and creative life.

Wool has fascinated me since the start of my education and I have loved all these years. I have done so many things with it: making tapestries, spinning, dyeing, crocheting, felting, knitting, making jewelry and cloths and a lot of other things. Long live wool!
