Het liefst zou ik vandaag gaan spinnen in de zon, maar eerst moet ik de keramiek voorbereiden voor de Raku-dag. Ik ga naar een Raku workshop en moet biscuit gebakken keramiek meebrengen. Daar we leren om ze glazuren en te bakken in een Raku oven. Raku is een traditionele Japanse manier van glazuren.
Het is lente en de vogels bouwen hun nesten. Overal is inspiratie. Ik ga ‘Nest bouwers’ maken. Na acht uur aan mijn vogels gewerkt te hebben zijn mijn handen enorm uitgedroogd door de klei.
The plan for today was to work in the garden. The pre-sown lettuce and bean plants are ready to be planted. I know it is a little early for it, since we still have a chance on frost. And there was a forecast of rain. When I woke up this morning I saw that the weather gods kept their promise.
A nice cup of tea, a boiled egg with a piece of bread with nuts, the stove was on and … a new Bliss. My day could not go wrong, nor could Luca’s since she also got an egg.
It is a sunny day, which became even more sunny as the assembly of the spinning wheel progressed. My husband Bob offered to assemble the wheel. He was very happy with the clarity of the instruction manual. And imagine our surprise when we found out we didn’t even have to go look for the correct tools, because they were included in the package! It took less than half an hour to assemble the wheel.
When our children came home from school and they couldn’t find me, they knew for sure that they could find me in the garden centre nearby. Flowers and chocolate are my addiction. About thirty years ago I started to paint watercolours roses, amaryllis and so many different other flowers.
In the 25 years of Meander I always have been in a privileged position. All my creative ideas could be translated in real products. I was allowed to play and when I found a beautiful picture of Al Pacino, I glued him on box. This box is still in my house, but it was the start of our collection “Decorated Boxes”.
In a small atelier, but also in our kitchen, I always like to play with clay. I used to give workshops, where I motivated my students and showed them a lot of own ideas. Now is the moment for me to make things for pleasure. I enjoy to play with shapes, make my own molds and express in all wonderful colours.
